Wing Mortuary, Lehi, Utah Edith Evelyn Barnes Slater, 96, passed away May 10, 2009 at the Greenwood Care Center, causes incident to age. She came into the world April 25, 1913 in Lehi, Utah, the second child of nine children to Joseph Ernest and Azaila Brook Barnes. On November 19, 1930 she married Charles Hyrum Slater in Salt Lake City, their marriage was later solemnized in the Provo Temple. Evelyn was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she held many church positions. She was ward organist for years both in ward and stake. She was member of the D.U.P. and served as a volunteer at the American Fork Hospital for 17 years. She also taught piano for 30 years and worked in the Provo Temple. She enjoyed being involved in politics and was always eager to have a political discussion. She was an elect lady who loved her family, loved the Savior, and always was a good example. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles, brother Floyd, sister Lois, son-in-law Raymond, one great-grandchild, one great great-grandchild and one great great great-grandchild. She is survived by three daughters; Uvonna Evelyn Duvall, Colleen (Douglas) Calton, Marilyn Edith (Gene) London and stepson Wayne Nelson. The family extends appreciation to Greenwood's for the many hours of love and care that was given to mother, and the compassionate care that was given by First Choice Hospice. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Wing Mortuary Chapel, 118 East Main, Lehi, Utah.
