Bio

Elwin Barnes 1918 ~ 2009 Elwin Barnes, age 91, passed away on Nov. 23, 2009 following a stroke.He was born to Joseph and Azalia Barnes on January 3, 1918 in Lehi, Utah. He had fond memories as a child. His schooling as a child was limited to the 8th grade but he was wise beyond his years. Elwin served in the Army for four years during World War II with General Patton. After his return he married Rose Mascaro on August 11, 1945. He worked herding sheep, had many construction jobs and retired from Geneva Steel after 25+ years. He was a dedicated home teacher, temple worker and had many other various callings. He loved camping and fishing with his grandchildren in Joe's Valley and was an avid horseman until age 70. He loved gardening, his little sheep herd and sitting under the walnut tree. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Floyd (LaFerne) Barnes, sisters, Evelyn (Charles) Slater, Lois (Dutch) Turner, sister-in-law, Shannon Barnes, brother-in-law, Norm Winters. Survived by his brothers, Lynn Barnes, Jack (Idona) Barnes, Freeman (Anna Mae) Barnes, sister, June Winters, children, Rosalin (Lamont) Hamilton, Herriman, UT, Johnny (Amy) Barnes, Lehi, UT, nine grandchildren, 15 great-grand children. Funeral service will be Saturday, November 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sunset 2nd Ward, 721 West 2100 North, Lehi. Family and friends may call Friday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at Wing Mortuary, 118 East Main, Lehi and Sat. morning from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment, Lehi City Cemetery.
