John Anderson is buried beside his parents, Samuel John Dawson and Nancy Jane (Baldwin) Dawson. None of the three graves are marked. Anderson was born in Monroe County, Mississippi in 1867, but his parents had moved to Lee Co., MS when the 1870 census was taken. His Grandma Mary Ann "Polly" (Webb) Dawson lived next door. Soon afterward, his parents left Mississippi in a wagon, moving their little family and Grandma Polly to join Grandpa John Dawson in a new home near Belton in Bell Co., Texas. So many this Dawson family settled there that the community was called Dawsonville. Anderson was probably about 4 years old at the time of the move, and as little boys do, he managed to bring with him a keepsake from Mississippi. It was a small wrench-like tool that he carried in his pocket. He kept it through the years to remember the place of his birth and the trip west, then handed it down to his youngest son, Hosey Virgle Dawson, who saved it as a special treasure and a memory of his father. It has no monetary value, but is handed down as a Dawson family keepsake. We don't know where Anderson met and married Susan Frances Russell, but know they lived near Bonham in Fannin Co., TX when their second son John Robert was born. They were in Hill County when the 1900 census was counted, and it was there they lost their eldest son to pneumonia early in 1900. Anderson and "Fannie" moved to a farm (the Goldsmith place) near Alvarado in Johnson Co. where their remaining 5 sons were all born. Anderson was a deacon in the Thompson Free Will Baptist Church, south of Lillian and northeast of Alvarado. He was working in the fields on a hot June day, and went to the house at lunchtime. He had not felt well all morning, and was getting much worse so he lay down to rest. He died that afternoon of a heart attack. He was buried the following day in the Pleasant Point Cemetery.
