Robert (called Bob by friends later in life) was the second of seven sons born to John Anderson and Susan Frances (Russell) Dawson. He married Jemima "Mima" Elizabeth Walker in Johnson Co., Texas where they lived until at least 1922. They moved, with their first four children to Washita Co., Oklahoma, where their fifth child was born. Robert lived most of his adult life in Washita Co. Oklahoma. He farmed for many years and later in life was a minister for a small church in Cordell, OK. Coming from a family with much musical talent, Robert's instrument of choice was the banjo. He is buried beside his wife, Mima, and they have a double headstone. Buried nearby are four of his children: Elmer Dawson, Harlin Dawson, Alice (Dawson) Harbin, and Ruby (Dawson) Franklin; a grandson: Elwin Anderson Dawson; a great-granddaughter: Larna Sue Franklin; and Robert's youngest brother, Hosey Virgle Dawson.
