Sebetka To Be Tomorrow Rites for Joseph F. Sebetka, 72, of Belle Plaine, who at one time operated the Tama County Oil company in Toledo, will be Friday morning, March 11, at 8:45 o'clock at the funeral home in Tama and at 10 o'clock at St. Joseph's church in Chelsea. Father Val J. Hlubek will officiate. The rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock this Thursday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be in St. Vaclav cemetery 2 miles west of Clutier. Mr. Sebetka died of a malignant tumor at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 1955, at University hospital, Iowa City, where he had been a patient since January 11. He had been in failing health since the first of the year and underwent surgery five times at the hospital. The son of Joseph and Marie Harapat Sebetka, he was born August 9, 1882, at Kozodra, Czechoslovakia. In 1903 he immigrated to the United States with Josephine Povlicek, a young lady who was later to become his wife. They came to Cedar Rapids, Ia., and were married Oct. 10, 1903, in Cedar Rapids. Mr. Sebetka worked for the city of Cedar Rapids for some time, then farmed near Cedar Rapids. Later he farmed in Tama and Grundy counties, In 1939 he started the Tama County Oil Company in Toledo on highway 63 and operated it for two years. He then sold the business and retired to Belle Plaine where he was living- at 1309 3rd Avenue. Mr. Sebetka was a member of the K. D. lodge of Clutier, and St. Michael's church in Belle Plaine. Mr. Sebetka and his wife observed their golden anniversary in 1953. Surviving are the wife and six sons and one daughter, listed in order of age, eldest to youngest: Milo and George Sebetka of Marion, Joseph of Jessup, Stanley of Toledo , Wesley of south of Tama, Edward of Sioux City, and Mrs. Edward (Marie) Burnett of Sioux City. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren Five sisters and a brother also survive, namely, Mrs. Frank (Justy) Stodola, and Mrs. Charles (Katherine) Sheda of Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Joe (Lillian) Melichar of Shell Rock, and Mrs. Joseph (Bessie) Kaspar and Mrs. Emma Zavodni, both in Czechoslovakia; and Lester Sebetka of Norway, Ia. Preceding him in death besides his parents were a sister, Mrs. John Vanous at Cedar Rapids in December, 1953, and a brother, Wesley, at Traer in 1933.
