TOLEDO-Wesley F. Sebetka Sr., age 90, of Toledo, died Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center under the care of Grinnell Regional Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 16, from 9-10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama. Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is handling the arrangements. Wesley was born on July 6, 1918, in Solon, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Josephine (Pavlicek) Sebetka. He was united in marriage to Gladys Esther Plehal on August 27, 1940 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama. Wesley was a lifelong farmer, he and Gladys farmed south of Tama for many years and later moved to Toledo in 1979. He also enjoyed gardening, working in the yard, bird watching, fishing, and listening to Czech music. Wesley especially enjoyed visits with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his younger days, he enjoyed vacations to Canada, Wisconsin, and Minnesota with Gladys. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Gladys on April 13, 2006; two daughters, Jennifer Sebetka and Judy LaRossa; one son-in-law, Jim Kubu; and five brothers, Joe, George, Mike, Stan, and Ed Sebetka. Survivors include three children, Wesley G. (Jeanette) Sebetka Jr. of Malcom, Linda (the late Jim) Kubu of Brooklyn, and Steven (Carol) Sebetka of Dysart; one son-in-law, Bob LaRossa of Corallis, NM nine grandchildren, Lynette Lindholm, Crystal DeNeve, Wesley J. Sebetka III, Sherry Mertens, John Sebetka, Mario LaRossa, Jennifer Teslow, Andy Sebetka, and Dan Sebetka; sixteen great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marie Burnett of Fort Worth, TX. Memorials may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice.
