Bio

Bernard "Ben" W. Gerik, 91, passed away Friday, March 19, 2010, in Benbrook. Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Ben was born Aug. 20, 1918, near West to Emil and Julia Gerik. He married Mary Alice Slater June 12, 1936. They moved to Fort Worth in 1941 where he worked at Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Company. Ben was drafted into the Army and served in the Pacific War during World War II. After his discharge from the military, Ben continued working at Consolidated Vultee Aircraft Company (the named changed to Convair) until he retired after 42 years of service, which was then General Dynamics. Ben and Mary Alice enjoyed traveling with their friends until she passed away after 65 years of marriage. He continued to be active in the Lockheed Martin Retirement Group and served as an officer for 25 years. Ben was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Alice; his brother, Ernest Gerik; and his sister, Willie May Sulak. Survivors: Sons, Don and Richard and his wife, Lucretia; grandsons, Rick and Dennis; granddaughter, Tina; two great-grandsons; and three great-granddaughters.
