Funeral Services For Emil Gerik Held Tuesday Funeral services for Emil Gerik, 66, were held Tuesday, August 2 at the Church of Assumption in West. Msgr. I.J. Valenta officiated with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the residence. Mr. Gerik was born on a farm just outside of West on December 24, 1893, and moved into West at the age of 28 in 1921. At that time he went into business with W.A. Zatopek and later formed his own business at the K and T Garage. In 1934 Mr. Gerik was employed as city nightwatchman. Some 14 years later, he was made Chief of Police. For the past eight years he has operated the Handy Grocery in West. He died of a heart attack August 1 at his home. Survivors include his wife, Julia Gerik; two sons, Ernest Gerik of Hubbard and B.W. Gerik of Fort Worth; one daughter, Mrs. Wesley J. Sulak of West; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Frank Ratchek of Dallas and Mrs. W. A. Zatopek of West; and one step-sister, Annie Kapavik of West.
