Bio

Joseph "Joe" Albert Umhoefer was born on April 12, 1906 in Alvord, Iowa to John Joseph Umhoefer and Mary Ann "Minnie" Liffring. In 1907 he moved with his family to Le Mars, Iowa where his parents operated a shoe store. In 1910 they moved to Anthon, Iowa where they opened a variety and shoe store. Joseph finished grade school and high school at St Joseph’s School in Anthon. Joe was an electrical engineering graduate in 1927 of Iowa State University, editor of Eta Kappa Nu National Magazine, Associate Editor of Collier Magazine, Lt. Commander in the U.S. Navy and a civilian worker in the Pentagon after the war.
