Bio

Beatrice V. "Bailey" Norrell, 84, of Powderly died at 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 7, 1998 at McCuistion Regional Medical Center. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, at Powderly United Methodist Church. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery is under the arrangement of Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 7-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Norrell, known to all as "Granny Bea", was born Feb. 16, 1914 in the Amherst Community of Lamar County to E. J. and Alva Coker Bailey. She graduated from Paris High School and married James Harrison Norrell in 1940 in Paris. He died Feb. 24, 1998. Mrs. Norrell was a longtime member of Powderly United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and as a member of the church choir. She also worked with her husband for many years at the family dairy. Surviving are a son, and wife of Powderly; daughter, and husband of Paris; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, both of Paris. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Harrison Norrell, daughter, Margaret Ann Wells Cantrell (md. Wesley Gene Cantrell) in 1976; three brothers and a sister.
