J.L. BAILEY, 85, of Paris died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Christus St. Joseph's Hospital. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 3rd in Fry & Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randall Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Bailey was born Nov. 20, 1915, in Paris to Early Jasper and Alva Emogine Coker Bailey. He married Mary Belle Burns on March 12, 1955, in Paris. He attended school at Amherst and graduated from Paris High in 1934 and also attended Paris Commercial College. He served in the Army during World War II in Africa and Italy under the command of George Patton and attained the rank of TEC 4 Sergeant. He was awarded the EAME Campaign Medal with five Bronze Stars, American Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. J.L. was a home builder and taught young men's classes in church for over 25 years. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and was in the men's Adult 6 Class. He was preceded in death by brothers; Jasper, Morris S, Hugh, and Woodrow Bailey; sisters, Helen Logan and Beatrice Norrell. Surviving is his wife of 46 years, Mary Belle; a god-daughter, Suann Allen; nephews, Jerry Bailey, James "Butch" Norrell, and Wesley Cantrell; nieces, June Chapman, Beverly Proffer, and Mary Justus. Pallbearers will be Charles Austin, Larry Anderson, James Morton, Tommy Barnes, Fred Spencer, and James Norrell. Honorary bearers will be Garland Chapman and Wesley Cantrell.
