Bio

Gustav "Gus" was the son of Herman and Mary Haberlein Wendland and the brother to Ludwina Barth, Mary Rolf, Caroline Dosky, Dora Hodde, Lizzie and Fritz. He was the half brother of Bertha Melber, Carl Wendland and Augusta Wendland. On November 24, 1903 Gus married Marie (Mary) Katherine Mueller Wendland in the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Richland. Their children were Alvina Kretzschmar, Gus, Walter, Delvin, Sidonie, Willie and Arthur. Gus became the owner of the Cele/Richland Saloon/Service Station in 1889 and built the present building in the 1890s. He was the proprietor until the late 1920s.
