An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Thursday, October 11, 1979: Mrs. Claude (Effie M.) Turner of San Antonio, a resident of the Gatesville area most of her life, died Oct. 3 in a San Antonio hospital. She was 73. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Gatesville and were conducted by Rev. Ken Berry and Rev. Curtis Beaird. Burial was in Restland Cemetery. Mrs. Turner, daughter of the late Sid and Dora Moore, was born at Purmela on March 1, 1906. She was reared in the Purmela and Arnett communities and was married to Claude Turner in March, 1928. They made their home in Gatesville, where they operated a grocery store and service station. Mrs. Turner was also employed by Martin's Cleaners. In 1965 the Turners moved to San Antonio, where they were houseparents at the Boysville Home until they retired last January. Mrs. Turner was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gatesville. In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. George (Frances) Wise of San Antonio; and a brother, John L. Moore of Corpus Christi. Pallbearers for Mrs. Turner's funeral were Dr. Norman Charlton, Stan Bond, Robert Elkins, Jim O'Brian, Quan Lopez and Edd Franz.
