An Obituary from "Gatesville Messenger & Star Forum," Thursday, May 6, 1982: Claude D. Turner, a former Gatesville businessman and for the last 17 years a houseparent at a San Antonio children's home, died Saturday in a San Antonio hospital. He was 76. Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Gatesville and were conducted by Rev. Kent Berry. Burial was in Restland Cemetery with Scott's in charge. Mr. Turner, son of the late Wylie and Lillie Turner, was born in Hubbard on March 6, 1906. He married the former Effie Moore in March, 1928. Mr. Turner operated a service station and grocery store on West Main Street in Gatesville until 1965, when he and his wife moved to San Antonio and became houseparents at the Boysville Children's Home. Mrs. Turner died in 1979. Ill health forced Mr. Turner to give up his work as a houseparent last January. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gatesville. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. George (Frances) Wise of San Antonio; two sisters, Mrs. Norma Lee Remington of Flat and Mrs. Erah Mae McBride of Fort Worth; and two half-brothers, Kenneth Turner of San Antonio and Dale Turner of Falls Church, Va. Pallbearers for Mr. Turner's funeral were Tino Lopez, Juan Lopez, Stan Bond, Dr. Norman Charlton, David Reed and John Frederick.
