Bio

The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, May 25, 1989; pg. 14 Elizabeth Lucretia Zeigler, one of six children born to James and Jennie (Jones) Buckles, was born on a farm near Superior, Nebraska, on September 23, 1906, and passed away in the Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital after a lengthy illness on May 13, 1989, at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 13 days. She was educated in the Superior schools and graduated from Superior High School with the class of 1926. On March 7, 1941, in Aurora, Nebraska, she was united in marriage to Floyd R. Zeigler. This union was blessed with one daughter, Retta Kay. They had lived in Ruskin, Denver, Guide Rock and Superior, where they were making their home at the time of her death. On September 23, 1979, on her 73rd birthday, she was baptized and joined the first Baptist Church. She was also a member of H.C. Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, of which she was past president, and the Neighborhood Club, and Baptist Circle. Elizabeth was best known by her friends and visitors for her hospitality. She always had something to eat, and never let anyone go away unfed or hungry. Among her hobbies were gardening, being a 4-H leader and Sunday school teacher. She spent many hours quilting and sewing. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Marion, Chester, Ira and Guy Buckles; and one sister, Nellie Michaud. She is survived by her husband Floyd of the home in Superior; her daughter, Retta Kay and her husband John Swaim of Greenwood, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Tonya and Jonathan Swaim; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 17, 1989, at 2:00 p.m. from the Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel in Superior, Nebraska, with Rev. Phil Thomas officiating. Music was provided by soloist Ken Fairbrother singing "How Great Thou Art" and "Rock Of Ages" with Evelyn Jackson as organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were Merlin Frey, Norman Frey, Rick Bates, John Price, Jr., Joe Price and Loren Mucklow. Honorary pallbearers were Leonard Erickson, Gene Holsteen, Kenny Buckles, Jim Buckles, Bill Michaud, Bob Michaud, Harold Buckles and La Rue Krough. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, near Superior, Nebraska. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Nebraska, was in charge of the arrangements.
