Funeral Services For Joe Walla Held Monday Funeral services for Mr. Joe Walla, 71, of West were held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, August 31 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, Msgr. I. J. Valenta and Rev. James Quilter officiated with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Kotch Funeral Home Chapel in West. Mr. Walla was born in Frelsburg and moved to the West area at the age of 13. He was co-owner of the Pioneer Gin Co. and the West Grain Co. until his retirement nine years ago. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, the American Legion, and the SPJST Lodge. He died at 6:30 p.m. last Friday in a Temple hospital. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Albina Walla of West; two sons: Joe Walla of Waco and Charlie Walla of Corpus Christi; four daughters: Mrs. Mary Ann Hopkins of Temple, Mrs. Dolores Quinn of LaMarque, Miss Rosalie Walla and Miss Josephine Walla, both of West; his step-mother, Mrs. Johanna Walla of West; three brothers: Willie Walla of New Ulm, Adolph Walla and Albin Walla, both of West; three sisters: Miss Annie Walla of Smithville, Mrs. Julia Jurica of Waco, and Mrs. Frances Sulak of Laredo, and 11 grandchildren.
