Willie Mae (Straten) Mears, age 70 of West, died early Wednesday morning October 16, 1996 at West Rest Haven. A rosary was recited at 10 a.m. October 19 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:15 a.m. October 19 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial followed at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. Mrs. Mears was born October 13, 1926 in West, the daughter of Anton and Louise Straten. Mrs. Mears attended Tours and the West Schools. She married Howard Curtis (Lum) Mears in 1956 at San Pablo, California and he preceded her in death on February 19, 1988. She lived in San Pablo, California from 1945 until she returned to West in 1989. She worked for Rawson Drug and Sundry Co. in San Leandro, California for over 25 years until she retired in 1979. She was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. She is survived by four sisters, Mary Ann Kubacak, Irene Glomb, Louise Podsednik and Evelyn Gerik all of West; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the West Ambulance or St. Mary's Churh. Aderhold Funeral Home in West was in charge of arrangements.
