Evelyn Rose (Straten) Gerik, age 82, of West, passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 23, 2014 at Providence Hospital in Waco. A rosary will be recited 6:30 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Aderhold Funeral Home in West, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 26, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Stephen Nesrsta and Rev. Paul Hudson con-celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Evelyn was born April 15, 1932 in Tours, the daughter of Anton B. and Louise (Schorn) Straten. She attended schools in Tours and West. On June 14, 1949 she was united in marriage to Johnny W. Gerik in Tours. They moved to Arlington in 1958 and returned to West in 1986. Evelyn was a homemaker and also worked for the Tension Envelope Company in Ft. Worth before retiring in 1983. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court #829, K.J.Z.T. St. Ludmila Society #11, and the West Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. Evelyn enjoyed babysitting, doing word search puzzles, gardening and baking. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and was famous for her pecan pies and Hello Dolly Bars. Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Willie Mae Mears and Mary Ann Kubacak. Survivors include her beloved husband of 65 years, Johnny Gerik of West; a son, Calvin Gerik and wife Starlette of Mansfield; grandchildren, Kristoffer and wife Laura, Kaitlyn and Kourtney; two sisters, Irene Glomb and Louise Podsednik and husband Robert; brother-in-law, Marvin Gerik; sister-in-law, Doris Nesrsta; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Kristoffer Gerik, Richard Gerik, Steve Podsednik, Edward Nesrsta, Richard Glomb, Mike Mendiola, Buddy Jeffers and Mark Gerik.
