Joe L. Marek, 83, of West died Wednesday afternoon, June 12, at a local hospital. Mass of Christian burial was at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Monsignor B.J. Zientek officiating. Burial followed at St. Mary's Cemetery. Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Kotch Funeral Home Chapel in West. Mr. Marek was born Oct. 31, 1901, in West, where he lived all of his life. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was a retired farmer and worker at Rainbo Baking Co. He also worked at Capital Service Station in West many years. He was married to Catherine Mudryk on Nov. 28, 1922, in West. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Alfred Marek and Albert Marek, both of Dallas, and Ben Marek of Coppell; a daughter, Irene Greico of Austin; three brothers, Alphonse Marek and John Marek, both of West, and Ben Marek of Waco; two sisters, Regina Bartosh of West and Lena Svacek of Fort Worth; 15 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Joe Dederich, Jr., Robert Marek, Glenn Grieco, Douglas Grieco, Matt Marek and Larry Marek. The West News, West, Texas, Volume 95, No. 25, Edition 1 – Thursday, June 20, 1985, page 7
