Benjamin Frank Marek, of Coppell, born October 4, 1933 in McLennan County, passed away January 20, 2004. His parents, Joe and Catherine Marek, preceded him in death. After graduating from West High School and serving two years in the Air Force, he went on to earn a B.A. in English and a B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering, all from Texas A&M University. His professional career included 33 years in the oil field, 25 of those years with Mobil Corporation. His responsibilities at Mobil included various positions at the Dallas Research Lab and extensive international travel throughout South America, Europe and the Middle East. He is credited with the development of many industry specific patents and authored various engineering publications. Ben was a member of numerous professional petroleum organizations, participated in several worldwide advisory groups and was a noted international speaker. He was a longtime member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, St. Anne’s Men’s Club and the Knights of Columbus. Ben especially enjoyed Dallas Cowboy and Texas A&M football and his annual Gulf Coast fishing trip. Ben is survived by his wife of almost 41 years, Pat Novotny Marek, and children and spouses, Benet and Scott Martin, Matthew and Maria Marek, and Andrew and Ann Marie Marek. He is also survived by two brothers, Albert Marek and Alfred Marek of Dallas, a sister, Irene Grieco of Austin, and a large extended family. A memorial service will be held at St. Anne’s Catholic Church at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 24, 2004. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Baylor Liver Transplant Program, or to Senior Adult Services. The Dallas Morning News – January 23, 2004
