Bio

Eddie Kubala, age 78, of West, passed away Thursday morning, December 20, 2001 at Providence Hospital in Waco. A rosary will be recited 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:15 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with the Rev. Vincent Chacko, IMS as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Kubala was born on May 21, 1923 in West, the son of Will and Emilie Kubala. He attended school in Cottonwood. He married Josephine Frances Bezdek on February 6, 1945 in West. He worked as a farmer for many years until his retirement in 1988. Eddie loved fishing, the family picnics, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of K.J.T. Society #31 in West and S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 6 in Cottonwood. He was a lifetime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary Jo Lawson, who died in October of 2000; a brother, Willie Kubala, Jr. and a sister, Bertha Pustejovsky. He is survived by his beloved wife, Josephine Kubala of West; five sons, George Kubala and wife, Shirly, and Mark Kubala and wife Edith, all of West; James Kubala and wife Carla of Leroy, Edward Kubala and wife Helen of Abbott and John Kubala of Lorena; three daughters, Frances Matus and husband Jerry, Joan Tipton and Josephine Polansky and husband Bill, all of West; a brother, Eugene Kubala and wife Sophie of Hillsboro; sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be George Kubala, James Kubala, Edward Kubala, John Kubala, Mark Kubala and Joseph Matus. Honorary pallbearers will be all of his grandchildren.
