John Holacka, 80, of 509 S. Davis, West, died Friday, May 4, at his residence. Rosary was recited Saturday, May 5, at Kotch Funeral Home Chapel at 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Sunday, May 6 at 2 p.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church, West, Rev. Walter Matus as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. Holacka was born April 27, 1904, in McLennan County, and lived in Penelope most of his life. He had lived in West since 1973. He was married to Annie Matus in 1927 in Penelope. Mr. Holacka was a retired farmer and a school bus driver for Penelope schools, a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, KJT Society No. 31, and Knights of Columbus Council No. 2305. Survivors include his wife, Annie Holacka, of West, two daughters, Mrs. Alvin (Bernice) Sykora of Waco and Mrs. Ed (Dorothy) Sykora of West; a brother, Jim Holacka of West; four sisters, Julie Cernosek, Hattie Bezdek, Mary Sulak and Albina Svrcek, all of West; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Ernest Bezdek, Marvin Matus, Ronnie Sykora, Kenneth Sykora, Pat Sykora and Michael Sykora.
