Otto J. Hanak, Jr., age 84 of West, passed away Thursday evening, September 1, 2005 in a Waco nursing home. Rosary was recited 10 a.m. Monday, September 5, 2005 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:15 a.m. at St. Mary's Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Vincent Chacko, IMS as celebrant. Military graveside rites followed at St. Mary's Cemetery in West. Visitation was held from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday at Kotch Funeral Home in West. Mr. Hanak was born March 14, 1921 in the West area near Cottonwood and had lived in the West area all of his life. He married Pauline Freyer on October 26, 1947 at Abbott. He was employed with General Dynamics for a number of years and with McLennan County Precinct #3 for twenty-two years until his retirement. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army and a member of the VFW Post 4819 of West, KJT Society #31, SPJST Lodge #6 and St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West. Mr. Hanak was preceded in death by his daughter, Lana Pavlicek, his parents Otto and Agnes Hanak, brothers, Ben and Albert Hanak, and sisters Mary Matus and Estelle Hykel. Survivors include his loving wife, Pauline of West; daughters, Linda Kolar and husband Charlie of Tours and Bettie Kupcak of Hewitt; a son Otto H. Hanak of Brenham; a son-in-law Larry Pavlicek of McKinney; grandchildren, Jared Kupcak and wife Katie, Tina Pavlicek, Kelley Kolar, Kody Kolar and fiancée Emilie Sykora, Kristy Owens and husband Kevin, Melissa Kupcak, Marc Hanak and Aubrey Hanak; and great-grandsons Andres and Braden Kupcak and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers were Richard Hykel, Marvin Matus, Marc Hanak, Kody Kolar, Kevin Owens and Larry Matus. Honorary Pallbearers were members of VFW Post 4819.
