Rudolph Bazant, age 80 of Rt. 1, West, died Friday evening, July 26, 1996 in West Community Hospital. Rosary was recited at 9 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in West. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 9:15 a.m. Monday in St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption with Rev. Ed Karasek, as celebrant. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery, West. Mr. Bazant was born August 1, 1915 in Ganado, Texas and had lived in West all of his life. He was a retired farmer and operated a grocery store at 4 Corners for a number of years and was employed with Cameron Mills in Waco for 20 years before retiring in 1978. He was also a member of the K.J.T. Society #107 of Abbott. He married Sophie Kocian on October 7, 1940 at West. Survivors include his wife Sophie of Rt. 1, West; one son, Raymond Rudolph Bazant of The Colony, Texas; two daughters, Kathy Birkes and Virginia (Gina) Plemons, both of Crawford; two sisters, Marie Grones and Ann Elliott both of Dallas; and five grandchildren, Mendee Moore, Clay Plemons, Brian Birkes, Lesley Ann Bazan and Natalie Bazant. Active pallbearers were Clay Plemons, Joe Moore, Rudolph Pavelka, Billy Pavelka, Joe Holy Jr. and Don Duke. The family has requested that memorials be made to the West Volunteer Ambulance Association or to St. Mary's Catholic Church Building Fund. Kotch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
