Bio

Emil Bazant, a well-known resident of West and a former editor of the Czechoslovak newspaper passed away at his home in West, on Friday, October 28. Rev. George Doskocil conducted funeral services Sunday at Aderhold's Funeral Chapel. The interment was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Survivors are his widow, four daughters, Mrs. Mary Grones and Mrs. Ann Elliott of Dallas, Mrs. Rosie Rejcek of Hillsboro, Mrs. Bertha Klish of West; a son, Rudolph Bazant of West, 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Emil Bazant was born January 14, 1876, in Bohemia, Czechoslovakia, the son of Joseph and Marie Bazant. He married Vincencie Svestka in 1899; three children were born in Bohemia, Mrs. Klish, Mrs. Grones, and a son who died in infancy. Before immigrating directly to West, Texas in 1909, Bazant was a foreman in a large textile mill. Here he devoted most of his life to farming his farm four miles west of West. He served as Editor of the Czechoslovak until 1952 when he retired due to ill health. With the exception of the years 1913 to 1915 when the Bazants lived in Jackson County they have always lived in West. He was a member of the West SPJST Lodge. Pallbearers were Albin Macik, Johnny Uptmore, Eddie J.
