Daughter of Delbert Walker and Cythna Elizabeth Park Wife of Clarence Alvin Smith married 22 August 1923, Provo, Utah, Utah Orpha May was born on the 5th of March, 1904 in Pleasant Grove, Utah, the daughter of Delbert and Cynthia Park Walker. She was the seventh child of a family of thirteen, eight boys and five girls. Orpha was born of LDS parents and all her life she lived up to their teachings, always being active in church work from girlhood until her passing away. She was a very quiet girl and had such a sweet and kind disposition. She was the same all through her life. She was loved by everyone and in return it seems, she loved everyone. She went to school in Pleasant Grove, Utah until she was in the third year of high school when she had to quit school and stay home to help her mother. Mother's health was very bad at this time. In 1916 mother gave birth to a pair of twins- boys- Dean and Darrell. Shortly after that our brother Warren's wife Flore died with the flu. She left a baby boy and her mother took care of him for some time. It, therefore became necessary for Orpha to quit school and help at home. Orpah was active in church work and was always ready to do anything that was asked of her. Father was a farmer and as there was a large family of us we all had to work very hard on the farm. Orpha always did more than her share of the work, and as I remember she never complained. She met Clarence Smith and they went together for 15 months. at the age of 19, she married Clarence on the 19th of Aug 1923. They moved to Provo to make their home. they worked very hard together to build that home, doing most of the work themselves. They had lots of company and everyone was welcome in their home. Orpha was such a good candy maker, we all had her make our candy for us. She made lots of candy and sent it to our boy Roy while he was in the service. She was also always making a cute apron for some little girl. Orpha and Clarence had been married nine years and had not been blessed with any children, which both of them wanted very much. They made arrangements with the doctor. So on the morning of June 5, 1930, a lovely baby boy was brought to their home. We never have seen anyone happier than they were. They gave every bit of love they had to the child, which was a God sent to them. They named him Maurice C. Smith. Through the Mother's love Orpha had for that baby 13 months later a beautiful baby boy was born to them on July 6, 1931, they named him Richard W. Smith. Before Richard was born. Clarence had an accident that caused him to lose his leg. But Orpha and Clarence were always cheerful through it all. Orpha was always a kind and loving mother to her children. I think God saw what a kind and loving mother she was, for she was blessed with another baby boy, on the 28th of May, 1935, and they named him Lynn E. Smith. She devoted her life to them, and oh, how she loved her three boys. No task was too great for her to do for them, although her health was not too good. Orpha was loved by everyone. She took an active part in the Provo 3rd Ward. She was a primary teacher for years, and a Relief Society visiting teacher. She sang in the ward choir for 4 years. She loved to go to the Leadership Meetings that were held at the B.Y.U. Everyone loved to work with her. Orpha was such a good, kind, and loving wife and mother that it seemed the Lord had work for her to do somewhere else. She was called home on May 14, 1942, leaving a husband, 3 small boys, 2 sisters, 6 brothers and so many friends who loved her so much. Her death was a great shock to all of us. Now Clarence has had their temple work done, she will have the opportunity to be with those she loved again. She passed away on 14 May 1942 in Provo, Utah, and was buried in Provo City Cemetery in Provo, Utah. By Florence Walker Brown, sister
