Anton Skalka ------ Deweese Julia Karmazin ---- Deweese ================= The Hastings Daily Tribune (Hastings, NE), Friday, May 19, 1916; pg. 7 Deweese Miss Julia Karmazlne (sic) and Anton Skalka were married at 10 o'clock Monday morning at the Blessed Virgin Mary church (sic). The ceremony was performed by Father Kopecky in the presence of a company of relatives and near friends. The bride wore a gown of white messaline trimmed with shadow lace and carried a boquet (sic) of roses. The bride was accompanied by her sister, Mary Karmazine (sic), a cousin, Cecilia Karmazine (sic), Mary Pavalka, Mrs. Lucasek, matron of honor. The bride groom was attended by his best friend, Godly Hubl. After the marriage service the bridal party relatives and friends, were received at the home of the bride where a sumptuous wedding dinner was served followed by the wedding dance social function. The young couple will begin housekeeping at once on a farm three miles north of town. ================= The Edgar Sun (Edgar, NE), Thursday, March 15, 1973; pg. 5 Obituary, Anton E. Skalka - Anton E. Skalka, son of Florian and Rosa Skalka, was born June 1, 1894 at Deweese, Nebraska and died March 5, 1973 at the Oakwood Manor Home in Edgar at the age of 78 years 9 months and 4 days. He was a member of Our Lady of Assumption Church and a charter member of the Catholic Workman branch 140 of Deweese. He was united in marriage to Julia A. Karmazin, May 15, 1916, at Assumption Catholic Church of Deweese. To this union were born three children. They had spent their entire life on a farm north of Deweese until they retired and moved to Deweese in 1949. Survivors include his widow, Julia, Edward of Deweese, Clara Janda of Grand Island, Agnes Meininger of Hastings, nine grandchildren and two brothers, Albert Sr. of Deweese and Rudolph of Hastings. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother John, two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Nejezchleb and Mrs. Anna Hubl. Recitation of the Rosary was held March 7 at 8:15. Funeral mass was March 8, at 10:00 with Rev. Frank J. Leiblinger officiating. Both were held at Assumption Church in Deweese. The pallbearers were his nephews, Albert Nejezchleb, Joseph R. Skalka, Bernard Drudik, Irvin Svoboda, Rudolph Hubl and Stanley Skalka. Burial was at the Deweese Catholic Cemetery.
