The Fairfield Auxiliary (Fairfield, NE), Thursday, May 5, 1949; pg. 1 DOZBABA - SKALKA A beautiful wedding was held Tuesday, April 26, at Sacred Heart church (sic) in Atwood, Kansas, when Miss Rose Anna Dozbaba, daughter of Mrs. Roza Dozbaba, and Mr. Edward Skalka, son of Mr. and Mrs. Anton Skalka of Deweese, were married in a double ring ceremony with the Rev. Father Camilue officiating. The marriage vows were exchanged before the altar decorated with gladioli and snapdragon. Johnny Williams and Virgil Micek assisted as altar boys. The bride entered the church on the arm of her brother, Don Dozbaba. She was dressed in a gown of white satin with a sheer yoke trimmed with lace falling into a train. Her full fingertip veil was attached to a beaded halo. She wore a strand of pearls, a gift of the groom. Her bouquet was of red rotes with long white streamers of rose buds. Miss Teresa Dozbaba, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. She wore a floor length dress of delf blue with a large white hat and white blouse. She carried a white colonial bouquet. Miss Leona Salka (sic), cousin of the groom, was brides maid. She was dressed aa the maid of honor. Her dress was of ice blue. Little Mardill and Julian Kogi, niece of the bride, were flower girls and were also dressed like the bridesmaid. Their dresses were of pink and yellow taffeta. The groom wore a medium blue twill suit, with a carnation buttonniere. Leo Skalka, cousin of the groom was best man and John Dozbaba, brother of the bride, were his attendants. Both wore suits of blue pin stripe. The bride's mother wore a blue dress with a corsage of carnations The groom's mother wore a wine dress. Her corsage was of carnations. The ushers were Brownie Skalka, Harry Kogi and Paul Dozbaba. A reception was held at the Sacred Heart basement for immediate relatives. The three tiered, wedding cake was cut by Mrs. Joe L. Vap. A wedding dance was held in the evening at the hall with music by Bert Lorance. Following a honeymoon trip to the mountains the couple will make their home near Deweese. Out of town guests at the wedding were: Mr. and Mrs. Anton Skalka, Mr. and Mrs. Brownie Skalka, Mr. and Mis. George Herbek and Mildred, Mr. and Mrs. Joe F. M. Svoboda, Miss Dorothy Karmazin, Mr. and Mrs. Joe R. Skalka of Deweese; Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Skalka and Leona of Fairfield; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mazour, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Janda, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Karmazin, Ben Drudik, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Mazour and girls, Lewis Mazour of Lawrence; Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Drudik, jr., Nelson; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bauers of Lincoln; Mrs. Dwayne Meininger, Hastings.
