The Plattsmouth Journal (Plattsmouth, NE), Monday, February 8, 1937; pg. 1 John Janda Dies at in Deweese Resident of Plattsmouth for a Great Many Years and Active in the Life of Community. From Thursday's Daily — The death of John Janda, Sr., 74, former Plattsmouth resident, occurred this morning at 1:30 at his home In Dewesse (sic), Nebraska, after a short illness from bronchial pneumonia. Mr. Janda was born in Bohemia and came to the United State when a very young man and located in Plattsmouth where the family made their home for many years and where the family was reared, moving twenty-six years ago to Nuckolls county (sic) where they have since resided. Mr. Janda was engaged here in shop work for some years and later served as street commissioner of the city under several administrations and proved a moat efficient official. After leaving this city Mr. Janda and family engaged in farming and a few years ago Mr. and Mrs. Janda turned over their land interests to the sons and retired to Dewesse (sic) where they made their home and enjoyed a well deserved rest. Six years ago Mrs. Janda passed away. A daughter, Mrs. Frances Hadraba of this city, preceded the parents in death eight years ago. In the past week Mrs. Joseph Wooster, a daughter, and Edward Hadraba, a grandson, of this city, have been at Dewesse (sic) at the bedside of the aged man. There is surviving three sons and five daughters, Albert Janda of Lawrence; John and George Janda, Dewesse (sic); Mrs. Anna Klavac, Lawrence; Mrs. Lillian Mazour, Dewesse (sic); Mrs. Julia Skalka, Hastings; Mrs. Rose Muzik, Dewesse (sic); Mrs. Joseph Wooster, Plattsmouth. There are also two brothers surviving, Cyril Janda and Frank Janda of this city. ======================= The Fairfield Auxiliary (Fairfield, NE), Thursday, February 11, 1937; pg. 1 Pioneer Resident Of Deweese Passses (sic) Away Funeral rites for John J. Janda, Sr. were conducted at the Deweese Catholic church Saturday at 9:80 a m. Requiem mass was celebrated by Fr. Adrian Klapec . Burial was in Deweese Catholic cemetery, the Brand Funeral service having charge of arrangements. Mr. Janda was one of the pioneer settlers in the Deweese neighborhood. For many years he farmed, moving to town a few years ago He died at the home of his son, George, in Deweese, early Thursday. His leaves three sons, Albert of Lawrence, John and George of Deweese: five daughters, Mrs. Joseph Wooster of Plattsmouth Mrs. Frank Skalka of Hastings; Mrs. Adolph Hlavac, Mrs. Henry Muzik and Mrs. Edward M. Mazour all, of Deweese; two half-brothers, Frank Janda of Havelock and Cyril of Plattsmouth.
