Bio

Mrs. Anton Lukasek Takes Her Life. Tuesday last Mrs. Anna Lukasek who resided with her husband and 15-year-old-daughter, five miles east of Lawrence, took a fatal dose of arsenic at about 7 p.m. and death followed at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, six hours later. The particulars, what we were able to learn of them, are about as follows: The lady returned Monday last from a weeks visit with her brothers at Plattsmouth her old home, and whatever came across her usual happy life, during this week's absence, we can not surmise, nor none of the friends of the family can tell, but from the minute she returned home she was downcast and despondent, and was not herself, neither in conversation nor action. Notwithstanding this sudden change in her, neither husband nor daughter suspected self-destruction. In the early evening she was attacked by violent vomiting spells and Dr. Cowan, of Deweese was called to administer to her and on his arrival about 9 o'clock the deadly drug had taken such a firm hold of the system that his best efforts to save her were of no avail. Mrs. Lukasek was one of the most loved and highly respected ladies of the community in which she has resided the past 9 years. Was of cheerful disposition, enjoyed good health generally, and possessed traits of character that greatly endeared her to those with whom she met. The lady was a member of Father Fleckinger 's congregation and he was called and administered the last sacrament of the church. ______________________ her mind was clear and she was perfectly conscious of everything and realized fully the distressing circumstances attendant upon her condition. Deceased was 34 years of age, Spoke fluently the Bohemian and English languages. The uneral services were held today and a large crowd, was present to pay their respects to the life of the esteemed woman. — Lawrence Locomotive.
