REST IN PEACE.. Funeral for James Austin Turner, 89, of Decatur will be today, Sept. 22, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Shelton Funeral Home with Bro. Charles Smith, Bro. Cecil Berry and Bro. Earl Holt officiating. Burial will be in Burningtree Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Mr. Turner who died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at River City Nursing Home, was born March 2, 1920, in Morgan County to John Andrew Turner and Mary Beasley Turner. He retired as a machinist from Wolverine Tube in Decatur after 32 years of service. He was a member of Point Mallard Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Mr. Turner loved gardening and yard work. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jan Turner; and a brother, Cecil Turner. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Margaret Turner; one son, Derek Austin Turner and his wife, Thalia, of Somerville; two daughters, Lillian Glennell Carr and her husband, Morris, of Decatur and Jackie Griffith and her husband, Wayne, of Hartselle; two brothers, Pierce Turner of Birmingham and Hosey Turner of Oregon; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Pallbearers will be family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery Fund or to the Point Mallard Baptist Church Building Fund.
