REST IN PEACE.. Funeral service for Cecil C. Turner, 87, of Decatur will be Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2009, at 11 a.m. at New Friendship Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronald Manley, the Rev. Cecil Berry and the Rev. Tommy Smothers officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in New Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Mr. Turner, who died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at Summerford Nursing Home, was born Dec. 14, 1921, in Morgan County to John Andrew Turner and Mary Beasley Turner. He was retired from Wolverine Tube in Decatur. He was a member of the Morgan County Sports Hall of Fame, inducted in 1999. He was an avid bowler and won the Southern Bowling Championship in 1957, held in Memphis. He also coached several sports. He was also a member of New Friendship Baptist Church. Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Ella Turner; and a stepson, Michael Champion. Survivors include his wife, Hilda Champion Turner; two sons, Cecil Howard Turner and wife Jo Ann and Mike Turner and wife Jasmin, both of Decatur; three stepdaughters, Gayle Jacobs and husband Larry of Moulton and Connie Perry and husband Tommy and Lori Weeks and husband Roger, both of Decatur; three brothers, Hosie Turner of Oregon, Jim Turner of Decatur and Pierce Turner of Fultondale; three granddaughters, Robin Higdon, Gayla Bailey and Mollie Baldwin; seven great-grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren. Pallbearers will be Derrick Turner, Jimmy Sharp, Morris Carr, Chip Baldwin, Roger Weeks and Tommy Perry. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Sparkman, Allen Houser and Larry Jacobs. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Friendship Baptist Cemetery Fund. Published in the Decatur Daily on 9/7/2009
