Bio

Peoria Journal Star, Sunday September 6, 2009 Obituaries Agnes Gaba East Peoria - Agnes May Gaba, 99, formerly of East Peoria, passed away at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2009, at Washington Christian Village in Washington. Despite plans for her 100th birthday celebration, she went on with her celebration with Jesus. She went peacefully, with her sweet nurses holding her hand. She just kept her eyes closed and her heart just stopped while the nurses were taking her pulse after they couldn't rouse her for breakfast. She was born Sept. 23, 1909, in Nebraska, the third of eight children of Arthur and Nellie Mae Pearl (Twigg) Bisco. She was preceded in death by her parents; three children, Earl Harris, Eleanor Clanin and Irene Harris; and three grandchildren, Kelly Clanin, Danny Clanin and Jacob Keesee. Her baby brother, Henry Bisco of Roanoke, survives. Agnes had five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren, and she loved her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, as well as great-great-nieces and -nephews, who all loved her dearly in return. Agnes proudly served in the WAC as a typist. In her younger years, she ran a restaurant and was an accomplished photographer. But she was famous for the crocheted blankets, baby clothes and doll clothes, as well as lovingly hand-stitched quilts, she gave to her family, who will cherish them forever. She loved the color purple and looked beautiful in it. She had an extensive doll collection, which she considered her "babies." Roses and chocolates were also a few of her most favorite things. She was very compassionate, adventurous and was lovingly considered to have a determined, stubborn spirit by her family (proven by living 100 years). Her family would tell her to behave, but she would always respond with a determined, "No." A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before the funeral. The Rev. John Plunkett will officiate. Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.
