Bio

Mrs. Steven Vail died at her home in the Little River suburb Wednesday forenoon at 11 o'clock after an illness of two weeks. On January 7, she was taken to the Rio Grande hospital for a slight operation that was advised by the physicians. She soon returned home, but did not recover as was anticipated. Acute Bright's disease set in and in a short time resulted in her death. She leaves a family of nine children, part of whom are grown. The youngest child is less than four years of age. The deceased was 46 years of age, and was well known in Salida, as she and Mr. Vail, who is among the oldest engineers on the Rio Grande, have been residents of the town for over fifteen years. The funeral was held at St. Joseph's Catholic church this morning at 10 o'clock, leaving the home at 9 o'clock. The interment was made at Fairview cemetery immediately following, Father Rivallier in charge. Only about three weeks ago Mrs. Vail's mother came from Wisconsin to make her permanent home with her daughter. A sister of Mrs. Vail, Mrs. Wey of Salt Lake City, was here at holiday times and returned with little Catharine Vail, who was to spend the winter with her. They were sent for, and arrived a week before Mrs. Vail's death. All of the children of the deceased were present at the time of death except the oldest son, William, who could not arrive in time, being delayed until Wednesday night. --The Salida Mail (Salida, CO) Fri. 18 Jan 1901 ======================================== Mrs. S.
