Bio

Lena K. Mertens, 95, died at the Lancaster Manor, Lincoln, Monday. She was a native of Lawrence. Rosary will be today (Thursday) at 7 p. m.The funeral will be Friday at 10:30 a.m., both at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lawrence, with the Rev. Thomas Au officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Mrs. Mertens was born April 24, 1897. She married Henry Mertens Sept. 29, 1925, at Lawrence. He died March 14, 1953. She lived in Lawrence until moving to the Lancaster Manor in 1991. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its Altar Society and quilting circle. Survivors are three sons, James, Edwin and Arnold, all of Lincoln; one daughter, Juliana Schuster of Dubuque, Iowa; one brother, Ferdinand Kimminau of Washington, Mo.; two sisters, Theresa Wermiskerch, Lincoln and Katheryn Kimminau, Lawrence; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
