Juanita Louise Cooper Freeman, was a native of Canton, Ohio, lifelong resident of Robertsdale , Ala. and born Dec. 28, 1927. She was a graduate of Robertsdale School and attended Montevallo College and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where she was a Corolla Beauty. She passed away Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Preston Freeman “Sam;” parents, W.B. Cooper and Evelyn Smith Cooper; brothers, Charles Cooper and Tony Cooper; sisters, Joyce Cooper Ludke and Carolyn Cooper Childress; and nephew Charles William Cooper II “Chas.” She is survived by brothers, Gail (Charlotte) Cooper and Robert (Sherry) Cooper of Robertsdale, Ala.; and sister, Martha Cooper Loper of Robertsdale, Ala. And while Juanita did not have children of her own, she was a mother to all her nieces and nephews, Andrew Cooper, Danny Ludke, Benny Ludke, Lisa Ludke, Mary Evelyn Polk, Michael Cooper, Anthony Cooper, Chris Cooper, Cara Kay Childress, Melinda Perry, Lee Cooper, Shana Cooper, Britton Cooper, Courtney Childress, Michelle Tallant, David Childress, Jonathon Childress, Ashleigh Middleton, Catherine Ross and Anna Loper. Juanita was a member of the Robertsdale United Methodist Church, a member of the Thurza Chapter 273 of the Order of Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron. She and Sam travelled extensively around the continental U.S. in their Winnebago and Airstream campers. And even a trip to Hawaii. Juanita was the general manager for her family business, Cooper’s Department Store in Robertsdale, from 1948 until it closed in 1983. Juanita was an avid golfer and participated in and won many tournaments in her day. Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 9, 2015, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Mack Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at Robertsdale United Methodist Church on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the New Cooper Cemetery in Rosinton, Ala.
