Clinton Jeffres came up from Horace Saturday. Sunday afternoon, he went to Grand Island on the motor to be examined by the army surgeons -- O.d. Quiz. . . . In the early 1920s Clint worked a few years doing road work for the Greeley County Board of Commissioners. In October 1924 the Wallace Creek voters filed a petition to have Clint put on the ballot precinct assessor which he then won. In early 1926 Clint sold off all his farming operation as he was moving to Kansas. An image of the sale brochure has been added to his record. If he did move to Kansas it did not last long as he was back in Nebraska by 1927. J. Kerrigan sale here Tuesday. A Classy span of mules brought $270. Clint Jeffres of near Horace was the purchaser. Young horses brought approximately $100. Good prices were paid for other livestock and farm machinery. Clint ended the 1940s working on county roads and would continue doing so well in the the 1960s. Gene Jeffres went to Grand Island Tuesday morning for a week's training after which he will be employed at the ordnance plant. Gene's father, Clint Jeffres, is also working at the plant, having started work about three weeks ago. The Register erred last week concerning Gene's military service. He was discharged at Santa Ana, Calif., serving as a sergeant in the marines. This was his second term of service in the marines, having been called back to service in December, 1950. He remained in the States both terms. . . . In 1952 Clint was the county assessor for the Scotia community. His son, Gene, of Grand Island brought him to Scotia. . . . Grand Island Independent, Saturday, November 7, 1970, pg 2 Clinton Irwin Jeffres Dies at Veterans Home Funeral services for Clinton Irwin Jeffres, 76, of Grand Island will be held 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of the Nebraska Veteran's Home with the Rev. Sam Becker officiating. Interment will be in the Burket Cemetery. Visitation hours are from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Mr. Jeffres, a World War I veteran, died Saturday morning at the Nebraska Veterans Home where he had been a resident since his retirement in 1963. Upon his discharge from service he farmed and trucked in the Greeley-Scotia area until his retirement. He was born Jan. 14, 1894,(sic) at Greeley, the son of George and Kate Jeffres. He grew up and attended school in Greeley. Survivors include his son, Eugene of Grand Island; daughters, Mrs. Doris Ketternmen(sic) of Seattle and Darlene Jeffres of St. Edward; stepsons, Albert Ernest and Alfred Workman of Bellingham, Wash.; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Elmer of Greeley, and sister, Mrs. Cora Hurley of Denver. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and one sister. Last residence: NE 68801 Clinton may have lived and worked at one time in South Dakota.
