Ernest O'Dell, 73, Brookfield, died Tuesday, Jan 6, 2009, at Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital, Columbia. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home, Brookfield. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the family receiving friends from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Brookfield, with military honors by VFW Post 4557, Brookfield. Ernest DeWayne was born June 23, 1935, son of John and Ola May (Collier) O'Dell. Mr. O'Dell was a millwright for General Motors, Kansas City, and had worked on turbine engines at Dresser-Rand in Chicago. He was a US Navy veteran. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Ernest Jr. and Lexa O'Dell, Yorkville, Ill.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Trina and Robert Welch, Spring Hill, Kan., and Kelly Moore, Paola, Kan.; three grandchildren, Alicia O'Dell, Mesa Ariz., Ryland Ratty, Pleasanton, Kan., and Cierra Moore, Spring Hill, Kan.; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and Don Smart, San Diego, Marge and James Englehard, Excelsior Springs, and Carol and Junior Kearns, Brookfield. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Arlene Fox, Alice Hull and Lorraine Sanders; and one brother, Richard O'Dell.
