Lincolnshire, England - Spouse: Frances Ruth Curran Quinn 1893–1950 m. 1925 in Ennis, Texas - Children: Joseph Sebastian Quinn 1926–2009 John Dennis Quinn 1930–2013 William David Quinn 1931–2020 Sailed from Liverpool on the ship Belgenland with his mother and then 7 siblings in 1895 and arrived in Philadelphia where their immigration was recorded. They then took a train to Austin, Texas where Joe and his mom and siblings were reunited with his father and paternal grandmother who had arrived in in 1891, entering at New York. Dennis worked four years to earn the cost of passage for Elizabeth and the children. Joe attended Saint Edward's University in Austin for a couple of years. He served in the US Navy during WWI in France. He sailed to Europe on a luxury liner, the SS France, out of Philadelphia. Part of his service was spent repairing the copper propellers of the airplanes used during that war. He was stationed in southwestern France near Bordeaux. He returned on a freighter that arrived in Hoboken, New Jersey. When he returned to Texas he went to Wichita Falls during an oil boom where he was an apprentice plumber with a Mr. Paggi. Joe moved to Ennis in 1924 when he got a job installing radiator heating in the local hospital. He met Frances Ruth Curran attending church and they married in 1925. After living in Wichita Falls they returned to her hometown of Ennis, Texas in 1928 where they raised their sons. In the 1930s Joe worked for the railroad fitting steam heating systems in railroad cars for the Sunbeam. At one time he worked in the Houston area living in a boarding house while Ruth and the boys remained in Ennis. Later he was self-employed as a plumber in Ennis for many years. Joe worked for a defense contractor in Grand Prairie during WW2. He had to apply for citizenship to do so. He became a US citizen on July 17, 1943. Later Joe stayed with his son John in Corsicana before passing away there at age 78. Joe enjoyed learning languages and studied French and Spanish. Joe Quinn Services Arranged Joe S Quinn, 78, of Grand Prairie, formerly of Ennis, died Tuesday night in a Corsicana hospital where he had been a patient five weeks. Rosary at Keever chapel will be at 7 30 pm Thursday. Requiem mass at I0am Friday at the St. John Catholic Church and burial will be in St Joseph Cemetery. - Mr Quinn was born in Birmingham. England He came to Austin with his parents 73 years ago. In 1924 he moved to Ennis where he was engaged in the plumbing business and in 1925 he married Miss Ruth Curran of Ennis. - He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War I. In 1947 Mr Quinn moved to Grand Prairie where Mrs Quinn died in 1950. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Grand Prairie and the American Legion post at Irving. Survivors include three sons, Joe S. Quinn Jr of Roy, Utah; John Quinn of Ennis and William D Quinn of Irving; two sisters.
