Bio

Charles Dallas Jones, Jr., 59, of 1601 McLean, died at the St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, July 10, 1983. Mr. Jones had been in failing health the past five months and entered Falls City Community Hospital for the last time on Sunday, July 3. He was transferred to Omaha on Wednesday, July 6. He was born on Sept. 25, 1923 at Padonia, KS, the son of the late Charles Dallas Jones and Elizabeth Adeline (Bean) Jones. The family lived in various places when he was a child due to his father's railroad employment. Mr. Jones graduated from Auburn High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy from December of 1942 until 1946. Mr. Jones was a gunner's mate on the U.S.S. Luraline, a troop transport which served in the South Pacific. Following his military service, he was employed by the Missouri Pacific Railroad at Glade, KS before attending and graduating from a barber college in San Francisco, CA. He first barbered in McCook and later in Nebraska City and Auburn. He barbered in Falls City from 1952 until his retirement in 1965 due to health reasons. Mr. Jones served as chairman of the Falls City Park Board for many years and held that position at the time of his death. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, VFW Post 1765, DAV Chapter 43, American Legion Post 102, Falls City Lodge No. 9, A.F. and A.M., and BPO Elks Lodge 963. He married Jacqualyn Brown on April 13, 1943, at Rock Port, MO. She died died on Dec. 26, 1953. He then married Jacqueline L. Atkins Nixon on Sept. 28, 1956 at Falls City. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife; four sons, Dallas Larry Jones, Peru; Robert Vern Jones, Omaha; Jeffrey Lynn Jones, Mitchell; and Martie Ray Jones, North Platte; two brothers, Ted Jones, Auburn and W.H. Jones, Falls City; six sisters, Sarah (Mrs. Amel) McVay, Auburn; Ada (Mrs. Jess) Marchand, Madison; Emily (Mrs. Robert) Bessler, Omaha; Kathern (Mrs. Charles) Stanley, Atchison, KS; Vesta (Mrs. Charles) Spears, Lincoln and Lucille (Mrs. William) Criger, Nebraska City and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy, a brother and a sister. Mr. Jones' body is at the Dorr Funeral Home. Services will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Ward Merritt officiating. Interment will be in the Rulo Cemetery. (Falls City Journal ~ July 11, 1983)
