Nannie Elizabeth Bell was born in Shelbyville, Shelby County, Missouri on June 8, 1863 to Samuel G. Bell , 1826 - Virginia, and Mary Johnson Bell , 1842 - West Virginia. She was the second child and eldest daughter in a group of five siblings. Names and birth order are: 1. William Henry Bell , b: February 2, 1861 in Missouri 2. (Nannie Elizabeth Bell, b: June 1863 in Shelbyville, Shelby County, Missouri) 3. Ella M. Bell, b: 1865 in Missouri 4. James Lucien Bell , b: Feb 1867 in Adair County, Missouri 5. Lydia J. Bell, b: 1872 in Adair County, Missouri Mary Johnson Bell died in about 1875 or 1876 and the responsibility of housekeeping fell to eldest daughter, Nannie Elizabeth. ~~~~~ Nannie and Daniel Boone Slater , 1854 to 1924, of Ray County, Missouri were married in Missouri in 1884 at a Quaker Meeting House. Daniel was a coal miner and a farmer. They migrated from Missouri - first to Iowa, then to East Texas and then further westward, settling in Eastland County and finally Nolan County, Texas. James Austin "Jim" Slater , b:Oct 5,1891, Texas d:Feb 28,1962, Texas 5. William Vining Boone "Bill" Slater , b:May 20,1893, Texas d:Jun 6,1966, Texas 6. Susan M. "Susie" Slater , b:Jan 31,1896, Texas d:Jun 24,1962, Texas 7. Benjamin Vachel Slater , b:Aug 12,1905, Texas d:Mar,1981, Texas Following the death of her husband, Daniel Boone Slater, on June 28, 1924, Nannie Bell focused her attention on two grandchildren, G.V. and Willene Slater, who lived nearby; but, when her health began to decline, Nannie agreed to move back to Wood County in east Texas to live with her daughter Callie Chaney and Callie's family. She resided in Alba with her children until her death on August 27, 1939 from complications of diabetes (specifically, gangrene). She was buried at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Alba, Wood County, Texas on August 28, l939, some fifteen years after her beloved Daniel was laid to rest in Sweetwater Cemetery, Sweetwater, Nolan County, Texas.
