Bio

John Nelson was born in Meadville Pennsylvania, May 28, 1842 and was 95 years of age at the time of his death. He was the oldest resident in Wilkin County at age 19 he moved near Mason City, Iowa. There he was married to Miss Mary Hartshorn. After living for some time at Spirit Lake, Iowa they came to the neighborhood of Foxhome where they farmed for four years. For the next six years he operated the Mercantile Store before retiring. He leaves to mourn his passing a daughter Mrs. Beatrice Holden of San Diego, California and five sons G. E. Nelson of Fargo, B.R. Nelson of Hewitt, R.N. Nelson of Washburn N. Dak. J.E. Nelson of Omaha Neb.; and H.L. Nelson of Foxhome. His wife preceded him in death eight years ago and from time he lived with his son H.L. Nelson and family.
