Obituary for Ralph M. Nelson taken from the Washburn, McLean County, Washburn Journal dated Thursday, Jan. 20, 1955. RALPH NELSON FUNERAL RITES HELD WEDNESDAY Funeral services were held a 2 p. m. Wednesday from the Methodist church ar Washburn for Ralph M. Nelson, Sr., 78, Washburn pioneer,who died in a Bismarck Hospital on Monday. Mr. Nelson was better known in his home community as "Chic" Nelson. The Rev. James MacKay conducted the services, Burial was in the family plot at Riverview cemetery. Mr. Nelson was born in Mason City, Iowa, Oct. 25, 1876 to Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Nelson. He received his education in Iowa schools. He Married Caroline Vreeland in 1900 in Iowa. She preceeded him in death. He came to North Dakota in 1905 homesteading west of Washburn. He was member of the Methodist church at Washburn. Mr. Nelson leaves three sons, three brothers, and one sister. The sons are Ralph Nelson, Washburn; Clare and Margden Nelson of Bismarck. The brothers are B. R. Nelson of Fergus Falls, Minn.; H. L. Nelson, Foxhome, Minn. and G. E. Nelson, Portland Ore. The sister is Mrs. Beatrice Nelson, San Diego, Calif. The body lay in state at the Perry Funeral Home in Bismarck until the time of the funeral.
