The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, August 17, 1939 Funeral services were held at St. Stephens church (sic) Tuesday morning at nine o'clock for Mrs. Jos. Buescher who passed away at her home southeast of town Sunday morning, after an illness of several months. Mrs. Buescher was an early resident of the St. Stephens community, being a daughter of the late Ferdinand Ostdiek, storekeeper at St. Stephens before Lawrence was founded. Born near Ft. Madison, Iowa, October 14, 1872, Mrs. Buescher came to Nuckolls county (sic) with her parents at the age of seven. She was married on November 10, 1891, to Jos. L. Buescher and her home from that time on was the farm, where she remained until her death. She is survived by her husband and ten children. One son, Ferdinand died in army service at Edgwood (sic), Maryland, during the war. Daughters surviving are Mrs. Jos. Wenzinger, Mrs. Eugene McCarthy, Mrs. Ernest Pohlmeier, and Miss LaVeta Buescher, all of the vicinity. Sons living are Robert and Elmer of Laramie, Wyo., Otto, Leonard, Vincent and Arthur of Lawrence. The deceased also leaves a brother, Henry Ostdiek of Geneva, and three sisters, Mrs John Buescher and Mrs. Jos. Brockman of St. Stephens, and Mrs. Clem Witte of Cambridge. Also several grandchildren and numerous other relatives. All of the children and all of the brothers and sisters were able to be at the funeral services. The pastor, Rev. B.J. Haskamp , officiated at the Requiem Mass Tuesday and was in charge of services at the grave in St. Stephens cemetery (sic). Pall bearers, all nephews of the deceased, were Cornelius and Verne Buescher, Harlan Wenzinger, Leander Brockman, Herman Ostdiek and Ralph Hoelting. -- Lawrence Locomotive.
