Kathryn Janzen Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Friday, November 3, 1989 at the Bethesda Mennonite Church in Henderson. Interment was held in the Friesen Cemetery. OBITUARY: Kathryn Janzen Kathryn Penner Janzen, was born on July 21, 1901, to Erdman and Susanna (Blinn) Penner, on a farm west of Henderson in Hamilton County. She lived on farms in the Henderson and Stockham areas, attending school at District #2, in Hamilton County. She completed her eighth grade education there. After her schooling, she continued to live on the farm east of Stockham with her parents and 2 brothers and 5 sisters. Her father died when she was 22 years old and she continued to help her mother and family with the family farm. On March 8, 1925, she married John A. Janzen, from Munich, North Dakota, at her mother's farm home. They lived on farms near Stockham, and moved to Aurora about 1935, where her husband was a bridge foreman for Hamilton County. Kathryn had spent the past 10 years in a wheel chair as a brain condition affected her balance, then her speech and finally her ability to eat and swallow. She accepted her afflictions with courage and patience and her faith in God. Her family was her main interest in life; she spent her days ministering to their needs with love and concern. She kept an immaculate home, raised a large garden and was an excellent cook, until her health failed. She and John enjoyed over 64 years of marriage and happiness together. Since January of 1987, they resided at the Long Term Community Care in Aurora. Her happiest times there were when she was visited by family and friends. She and John attended Bethesda Church until her health no longer allowed her to do so. There were very faithful in listening to radio broadcasts of the church service, even so late as this past Sunday. Kathryn passed away on October 31, 1989, at the age of 88 years, 3 months, and 10 days. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband John, of Aurora; 2 daughters, Alma Witkowski, and her son-in-law Richard Witkowski, of Beatrice, her daughter Betty Backer of Grand Island; her grandson Tom Backer and his wife Judy and 2 great grandchildren, Kayla and Nathan of Grand Island; one brother, Jake Penner of Hampton; 2 sisters, Marie Dick of Aurora and Helen George of Sutton; also numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Edmund Penner, 3 sisters, Anna Dick, Susie Goertzen and Elizabeth Penner. She lived her life by the Golden Rule and her life and faith remain a constant testimony to those who mourn her passing.
