John A. Janzen, the son of Jacob and Anna (Weins) Janzen, was born on a farm near Munich, North Dakota, on March 10, 1900, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on September 29, 1991, at the age of 91 years, 6 months, and 19 days. He grew up on a farm near Munich, North Dakota, where he attended country school. When he was in his early 20's he came to Nebraska. On March 8, 1925 he was united in marriage to Kathryn Penner at Kathryn's mother's farm home near Stockham. They farmed near Stockham until about 1935, when they moved to Aurora and he became a bridge foreman for Hamilton County. John retired in 1970, and they moved to Hamilton Community Care in January of 1987. Kathryn preceded him in death on October 31, 1989. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Hank and Jake Janzen, and a sister Marie Janzen. Those who remain to cherish his memory are 2 daughters, Betty Backer of Grand Island and Alma Witkowski and her husband Richard of Beatrice; one brother Dave Janzen of Devils Lake, North Dakota; 2 sisters, Katherine Dick of Munich, North Dakota, and Elizabeth Dick of Minnesota; 1 grandson Tom Backer and his wife Jody and 2 great grandchildren Kayla and Nathan all of Grand Island, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
