Bio

Son of Walter Pendergraft and Annie Aultman. Husband Of Ella Lou Kindle. Father of Robert Brain (R.B.), Thelma Mae and Juanita Geraldine. --------------- OBITUARY The body of Walter PENDERGRAFT, age 44, was found one mile south of the Santa Fe round house and west of the right-of-way, by E. B. Chumbley, an employee of the State Highway Department. A 12-gauge single barrel shotgun was found near the body. Sheriff Walter Jones and Justice of the Peace Harold Reed summoned a coroner’s jury. A verdict of suicide was returned by the Justice of the Peace. PENDERGRAFT left Canadian about 1:30 on a Thursday afternoon, saying he was going to hunt rabbits, Sheriff Jones said. When he did not return a group of citizens started hunting for him Friday and continued the search, at intervals, until the body was discovered lying beneath some cottonwood trees. It was not determined how long he had been dead when found. Mr. PENDERGRAFT is survived by his widow, Mrs. Ella PENDERGRAFT; a son, R. B. PENDERGRAFT; two daughters, Mrs. Thelma DAVIS and Juanita PENDERGRAFT, also, his mother, Mrs. Annie PENDERGRAFT; two brothers, Tom PENDERGRAFT, Canadian, Louie PENDERGRAFT, Goodrich, Texas; two sisters, Mr. J. E. LEWIS, Herrington, Kansas and Mrs. Dan B. HOOVER, Canadian. Mr. PENDERGRAFT was born at Magnum, Oklahoma on April 20, 1893. He was united in marriage to Miss Ella KINDLE, November 22, 1914. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Funeral services were conducted from the First Methodist Church, with Rev. A.C. Haynes officiating. Burial was in the Canadian Cemetery.
