Herald & Review 10/28/2006 TAYLORVILLE - Lawrence David Gaither, 95, of Taylorville, formerly of Moweaqua, died 1:50 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 26, 2006) in St. Vincent Memorial Hospital, Taylorville. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Moweaqua, with Pastor Rodney Bloomquist officiating. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday in Sutton Memorial Home, Taylorville. Memorials: Sanner Chapel Church or donor’s choice. Mr. Gaither was born Aug. 18, 1911, in Moweaqua, the son of Alonzo and Allie Kemp Gaither. He was affiliated with the United Methodist Church. He was a farmer, retiring in 1974 and sold seed corn for Garwood Seed Co. for 50 years. He loved to recite funny short line poems and was a top-notch checker player and seven-up card player. The St. Louis Cardinals was his favorite sports team and anyone who played the Chicago Cubs. He married Anna Kendrick Dooley on April 2, 1932. She preceded him in death April 7, 1989, after 57 years of marriage. Surviving are his son, John L. Gaither and wife Ruth Ann of Taylorville; daughter, Marilyn Fitzgerald and husband Jim of Bethany; grandchildren, Janet Bafford, Michael Fitzgerald, Michelle Fitzgerald Preiksaitis, Margaret Fitzgerald Dieringer; nine great-grandchildren; three great-stepgrandchildren; brother, Lyle Gaither of Moweaqua; sisters, Lena Belle Tinsley of Tobinsport, Ind.; Darlene Jones of Decatur.He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, three sisters and grandson, John Gaither Jr. The family especially wants to thank the second floor nurses at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital and Dr. Rick Del Valle for all of their heartfelt care for Lawrence.
