Alfred is the son of Samuel and Rebecca (Myers) Bear. He married Laura W Wentworth on December 29, 1874 in Macon County, IL. After her death, he married Sarah M in 1887. Herald & Review 3/3/1917 Alfred Wesley Bear aged 67 a resident of Macon county most of his life died Friday at the home of his daughter,Mrs. McKaig west of Blue Mound following a year of suffering with heart trouble. He was a member of the Blue Mound Methodist church of Ionic Lodge,No 312,AF&AM and of the Knights and Ladies of Security order in Decatur where he lived for a few years. He was a farmer early in life,but when the farm did not require his time and personal attention he did carpenter work which he enjoyed. His particular inclination was toward tools and machinery. Anything of a mechanical nature delighted him and he took pleasure in solving mechanical problems. He was a practical engineer,carpenter and miller. In 1887 he opened a flour mill in Lovington being a partner of Alfred Rebok. Rebok managed the business and Mr. Bear took chare of the mechanical work. They remained in business two years then moving their plant to Bloomfield,Stoddard county,Mo. Mr.Bear remained there until 1897. In that year he quite the business and returned to Macon county. He was born near Newville,Pa.,April 3,1849. He came to Macon county when he was a small boy. He operated a threshing machine outfit in the Lovington community for 20 years. For a number of years his brother,William was associated with him as a partner in this work. His first wife was Miss Laura Wentworth. they were married Dec. 19,1874. She died Aug, 25, 1884 and he and Sarah M. Major were married Dec. 16, 1886. He leaves his wife and five children. They are Mrs. Hazel Tandy,Decatur, Mrs.Edna R. Mckaig,Mrs.Ada Christian,Cecil all of Blue Mound,Walter S of Portland,Ore. There are five grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted Sunday at his daughters Mrs. Tandy and at Boiling Springs church with burial in the Boiling Springs cemetery.
