Albin J. Matus Sr., 87, of Bellmead, passed away Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at his residence. A rosary will be recited 6 p.m. with visitation following until 7:30 p.m., Monday, at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellmead, with the Rev. Timothy Vavarek as celebrant. Burial will follow at Fatima Cemetery near Abbott. Albin was born in Hill County, Texas, to the late John R. and Rosie (Trlica) Matus. He attended Alligator Creek and Abbott schools. He served his country with the United States Army Air Corp during World War II in the South Pacific. On June 18, 1946, he was united in marriage to Adele Kolar in West. Albin worked as a warehouse supervisor for Olmstead-Kirk Paper Co. in Waco for over 37 years, before retiring in 1986. He enjoyed playing dominoes, crappie fishing and barbecuing. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Albin served as a board member for Reicher Catholic High School, and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #7202 in Bellmead, the McLennan-Hill Czech Heritage Society, a life member of the V.F.W. Post #4819 in West, and was a charter member and served on the board of directors for Geneva Hall. Albin was an accomplished accordion player, playing for many weddings, anniversaries, Westfest and West Rest Haven, where he enjoyed volunteering. He was also a founding member of a polka and country western band called Albin Matus and the Rhythm Playboys. Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Rosalie Parma and Barbara Ann Matus; a brother, Rudolph Matus; and a son-in-law, Laddie Nors. Survivors include his beloved wife of over 62 years, Adele, of Bellmead; sons, Albin J. Matus Jr. and wife, Marcia, of Sunnyvale, Milton J. Matus and wife, Mary Jean, and Benny Matus and wife, Kim, all of Austin; daughters, Mary Ann Nors, of Marble Falls, Marsha Gerik and husband, Ronnie, of Aquilla, Melissa Reither and husband, Charlie, of Hutto, and Monica Williamson and husband, Ken, of Arlington; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; brother, Johnny Matus, of Irving; sisters, Willie Mae Pustejovsky, of Abbott, and JoAnn Cepak, of Bellmead; special friends, Frank and Lilly Losak; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
